In 2004, UTAT had its humble beginnings as an after school project with five dedicated members who had a passion for aerospace, competing in the annual Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI) Free-Flight competition. As our team matured, our designs evolved and we steadily rose in rankings and competed in additional competitions. In 2007 UTAT began competing in the Society for Automotive Engineering (SAE) Aero series competitions. In 2010 UTAT began entering into additional classes within the SAE competition. In 2012 UTAT added the Unmanned Systems Canada (USC), Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI), and the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) to our annual competitions. Finally, in 2014 UTAT began competing in the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC), adding an element of space to our historically aeronautics team.
